Golf in Austria – where nature shows its best side!
Mountain peaks stretching as stately pillars into the sky. The fairways are lush green, the view is endless, almost magical, and the air is crisp and clear. In Austria, golf is so much more than trodden fairways and fine wines - here you breathe fresh Alp-delight and top off the round with a spa.
The story is that Austria invented the spa - and health resorts which satisfied the wealthy and famous. The famous composer Ludwig van Beethoven traveled to Baden bei Wien to cure his deafness, while Princess Sophie felt that the water from Bad Ischl was good for her fertility. The popularity of the treatments grew in the country and today there are more than 100 spas and health resorts across Austria. Many offer a combination of seasoned golf weekend with spa treatments for your well being.
But it's not just the combination of golf and spa that makes Austria an exciting destination. The combination of golf and skiing is at least as much fun. Austria has eight glaciers where you can easily play golf in the morning and finish with a half-day on the slopes, or vice versa. Preferably use a car to easily transport yourself between the golf course and the ski slopes, and to be able to smoothly throw off your golf shoes and clubs as it approaches powdered snow and chair lifts.
Austria has nearly 150 golf courses around the country. Many of them of very good class, and as is the case with most golf in Austria, it offers quite breathtaking views of mountain peaks and green-clad valleys. Nature is Austria's "ace up his sleeve," it surprises you constantly with one golf hole more beautiful than the other.
The best golf regions in the country are Zell am See in Salzburg Erland and Kitzbühel in Tyrol. There they gathered all the right ingredients for a great golf vacation - luxury mountain villages, friendly people, superb golf courses, diverse outdoor activities, top-class restaurants and spa treatments for all types of bodies.
On golf courses it is relatively quiet and the green fee is really affordable, especially if you get a "Golf-Alpin-Pass”, which allows you to play five rounds at some of the 44 golf courses found in western Austria. The cost of a "Golf-Alpin-Pass" may vary according to season, but expect to pay about EUR 264 and then you have the option to play some of the country's best courses.
