Gary Player CC
Gary Player Country Club is located in the crater of an extinguished volcano, and is a an all-round ’5 star experience’. The course is consequently ranked among the 5 best in South Africa and among the 50 best in the world. Several of golf's biggest tournaments have been played here, such as the Nedbank Golf Challenge – prize, 2 million dollars – and the Women's World Cup where the world's best female golfers square up for a prize of 1.4 million dollars. Gary Player is one of the world's longest golf courses and stretches over 7,000 metres from the first tee. It winds through untouched bushveld with a magnificent view of Pilanesberg. The course's comparatively flat disposition is clearly misleading. Misleading height differences, water hazards, trickily placed bunkers, uncompromising rough and lightning fast greens protected by low-lying terrain and hills that require courage and accurate play. The water hazard on the second hole, par 5,requires that the first drive creeps along the edge of the fairway to be followed by a long second hit over the water. Even the ninth hole, par 5, requires a hit over the water to reach the green on the island. Low points after a round here makes the player feel like a million dollars.
