Golfclub Owingen-Überlingen

Very interesting is the long history of the area where the today’s golf course is located.

On 1st of April 1777 at the estate Lugen there was opened a post office named "Vorderösterreichische Postanstalt in der Reichsabtei Salmansweiler" and was owned by the imperial monastery of Salem until 1803. In the end of 1802 the free float of the monastery of Salem in the Lake Constance area was secularized together with the abbey, and thus came into the possession of the Margraves of Baden.
The golf course of the GC Owingen-Überlingen Hofgut Lugenhof was built in 1989 on the area which was rented from the Margraves of Baden, and then in 2000 this area was bought by the members of the golf club. This is an unparalleled incident because Owingen is one of the very few golf courses in Germany which is owned by the members.

But it is not only characterized by that fact, it is also its beautiful location on a plateau high above Lake Constance upside the city of Überlingen.

As you have a view deep into the hinterland with breathtaking views to the Castle Heiligenberg, which is owned by the Princely House of Fürstenberg and the from a long distance visible observation tower of Hohenbodman on the first 9 holes, you can enjoy on the second 9 holes the breathtaking views over Lake Constance and the behind located Alps of Allgäu and Switzerland with the mountain Säntis.

This is only a short description of the beauty of the golf course. The golf club has restored by themselves the old buildings of the margrave’s leased estate on the Lugenhof in a beautiful way, and thus the old Lugenhof in which you find the club restaurant is also listed.

So you cannot only play golf but also make wonderful steeped in history trips.
